Dorris Jean Titsworth, 87, passed away on November 24, 2017 at her home in Custer.
Dorris was born on March 15, 1930 in Watervliet, the daughter of John and Viola (Shingledecker) Matrau. One day in 1947, Dorris was waitressing when a man named Norman Titsworth was seated in her section. While Dorris wanted nothing to do with that boy, Norman told his friend he would marry that girl someday. Six children and 64 years later, Dorris and Norman were separated only by his death in 2013.
After Norman got out of the service, they moved wherever the work was. It was easy for Dorris to find a good job each time they moved as she always had wonderful references and was well loved by all who met her. A complaint never passed her lips and she was like family to everyone she met, often being referred to as mom or grandma by her friends.
Dorris is survived by children, Terry Doyle, Denise (Charles) Johnson, Joel Titsworth, and Carrie (Sean) Lamoreaux; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren
Dorris was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viola Matrau; children, Mark and Guy Titsworth; and siblings, Betty (Merlin) Tanner and Gordon (Doris) Matrau.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Sugar Ridge Church of the Brethren, with visitation starting at 2:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
