Donald Edwin  Newberg
Donald Edwin Newberg, age 88, of Ludington, passed away on October 30, 2017.

Donald was born on December 27, 1928 in Ludington, the son of Andrew and Minnie Newberg. He graduated from Ludington High School in 1947, where he was a multi-sport athlete. Donald attended photography school in Chicago, then Michigan State University before joining the United States Army. He served for two years during the Korean Conflict. On September 12, 1953, Donald was wed to June Charney. Upon leaving the U.S. Army, Donald attended Central Michigan University on the G.I. Bill, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1955. He went to work for General Motors in Flint for a few years, then in 1957, he and June moved back to Ludington and opened Ludington Photo. Six years later, they sold the studio and went back to GM in Flint until his retirement in 1987.

Donald loved photography. He was a world traveler and enjoyed sports, fishing, and golfing.

Donald is survived by his children, Diane (David) Newberg-Laviolette, David (Margaret) Newberg, Thomas Newberg, and Timothy Newberg; granddaughter, Shelby Newberg; his faithful canine companion, Riley; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Minnie; wife, June Newberg; siblings, Alice, Clara, and Charles; and his beloved dog who was often referred to as his fifth child, Jenny.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Oak Grove Funeral Home with visitation starting at noon. Inurnment with military honors will follow at South Victory Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 76 in Ludington.
