Obituary for Lee "Sam" Cabot

Lee "Sam" Cabot
Sam (Lee Edward) Cabot passed from this life into his eternal life with Jesus Christ on October 2, 2017.

He was born September 18, 1934. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Rev. Dr. Bobby (Roberta) Cabot. He is also survived by 2 daughters: Judy (Rick) Dean, and Bonnie (Milford) Sage, his brothers Gene (Sandy) Cabot, David (Kathy) Cabot and Kenneth (Wanell) Cabot, and numerous nieces and nephews. His six grandchildren are Toni (Andy) Ordway, Nancy Wade Helminski, David Dean, Trisha (Bud) Meier, Brock Sage and Brooke Sage. He has eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Cabot, his mother Grace Larsen, his daughter Penny Wade, his brother Jerry Cabot, and his sister Dawn Kramer.

Sam was deeply beloved by his wife and everyone who knew him. He was an independent business man most of his life. The Lord called his wife to ministry in the 1990’s, and Sam supported and ministered with her in three United Methodist churches. He was known for his compassion, love and gentleness with all the people of the congregations he served with his wife.

Sam was a master hunter and fisherman. He knew every stretch of woods, and would often tell Bobby what size buck he shot in which area as they drove the two-tracks of the counties. He fished every body of water in Northern Michigan, from creeks, rivers, lakes and the big lake. He loved the outdoors.

Sam was also a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family and prayed for them regularly. It was one of his greatest joys when his family came and camped on the river with him and Bobby over the summer months.

Sam was battling serious illness in the last months of his life. His family is so grateful to God that He took Sam home in his beloved river, rather than allowing him to suffer interminably in a hospital bed. Although his leave-taking was traumatic, his family knows that he is healed, whole and in the full presence of God — and they would not want it any other way.

Sam’s final wish would be for everyone to know Jesus Christ, know their sins are forgiven, and that they, too, will return to God for an eternal life in joy when this life ends.

If you would like to make a donation, you may make it to Kingdom Life Healing Ministries, Sam and Bobby’s ministry that allows her to minister world-wide, or to Manistee United Methodist Church.
