Obituary for Robert Cowan "Bob" Shuman

Robert Cowan "Bob" Shuman
Robert Shuman, age 71, of Scottville, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 14, 1945 in Janesville, WI to Robert and Marcella (Moore) Shuman Sr.
When Bob moved to California he entered into an apprentice program and became a journeyman electrician. He worked at Long Beach Naval Ship Yard and the Marine Corp. Base in El Toro, CA. He married Susan Ann Wells on November 17, 1967 in Long Beach California. In California, he was president of the Contemporary Historical Vehicle Association. Cars were always his hobby. After taking a vacation to the Scottville to visit his sister, Bob and Sue fell in love with the area and promptly returned home, sold their house, and have resided in Scottville ever since. Together they raised two children, Rebecca and Matthew. Bob was a co-leader of the Riverton Rascals 4H Club for over 15 years. He also served on the Riverton Fire Dept. Bob retired from Harsco Rail in May of 2006. When Bob and Sue moved to Scottville they owned and operated Sunny Gully Farm. He was a frequent vender at the Scottville and Ludington Farmers Markets, where he sold hot sauce, produce, and eggs.
Bob loved gardening and he was an avid fisherman. Other than his children and grandchildren there wasn’t much he enjoyed more than his favorite fishing hole, and those that knew him know exactly where that’s at!
Bob will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Susan; children: Rebecca (William) Sheaffer of Ludington and Matthew Robert (Jenny Spicer) Shuman of Ludington; two grandchildren: Korben and Alexis Sheaffer; three siblings: Terri Manning of Scottville, Dianne (Matthew) Finnegan of Beloit, WI, and Christine (William) Barnett of Black River Falls, WI; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his Father, Robert Shuman Sr., Mother, Marcella Carter, Step Father William Carter, Grandmother, Lilly Moore and his nephew, Matthew Manning.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 29, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. A celebration of Life will take place Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home with visitation one-hour prior. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or TNR Cats.
