Obituary for George Lovell Vaughn, Jr.

George L. Vaughn, Jr., age 86 of Bear Lake died Saturday, August 26, 2017 at his home.
He was born on February 1, 1931 in Detroit, MI the son of the late George L. & Laura B. (Hiest) Vaughn. He was a graduate of Redford Union High School and served in the US Naval Reserve. On June 6, 1981 George married Jacquelyn (Showalter) Jones in Onekama. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2011.
George was employed by Heat & Frost Insulation – Local #25 of Detroit. In his retirement he enjoyed working and playing at the Heathlands Golf Course.
He was active in his support of veterans of the United States Military and proudly flew the American Flag. He was an avid woodcarver, and in his younger years enjoyed fast pitch softball and bowling.
Survivors include his six children; James (Patricia) Vaughn of Whitmore Lake, Peggy (Michael) Cooley of Inkster, George (Mary) Vaughn III of Jackson, Merrilee Spry of Northville, Michelle (Greg) Fuchs of Livonia, and Scott (Linda) Vaughn of Springhill, TN, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, & great-great grandchildren, and his sister; Barbara. Also surviving are his step-children; Joseph Jones, Kenneth (Judith) Jones, Daniel (Patty) Jones, Marlene Jones-Pete, and Ardys (Alan) Dougherty.
He was also preceded in death by a brother; Bill Vaughn.
No services are planned at this time.
Memorials in George’s name may be directed to Manistee County Meals on Wheels or Munson Hospice.
