Obituary for Harold L. Kitchen

Harold Laverne Kitchen, 85, passed away on August 16, 2017 at home in Montague.

Harold was born on November 9, 1931 in Muskegon, the son of Edward and Ruby (Holtz) Kitchen. Harold was Cpl. E-4 in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He was discharged with three bronze service stars, United Nations service medal, and National Defense Service medal. Harold married Valerie Christensen on October 24,1981 at their home Montague.

Harold was a machinist at Teledyne Continental Motors for 39 years until his retirement on June 23, 1989. He enjoyed woodworking, singing, playing guitar and piano, and played in country western band for 35 years.

Harold is survived by his children, Denise (Roger) Greve, Linda Layman, Mark Kitchen, Diane Tyler and Connie Ruud; his children's mother, Dorothy Barney; stepchildren, Vicki (Walt) Sanborn, Lora Ferrier, Colleen (Mike) Bean, Pam (Larry) Bean, and Robert (Teena) Ferrier; his adopted children, Carmen Kitchen and Sarah Porter; 39 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Valerie Kitchen, on December 8, 2015; sons, Thomas Kitchen and Bradley Kitchen; stepson, Raymond Ferrier; adopted son, Stephen Kitchen; and granddaughter, Lisa Stefantis.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 2-6 pm at VFW Post 3256, 9370 Walsh Road in Montague, with Kevin Munson officiating.

Arrangements were entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Ludington.
