Obituary for Edward Stuart Swanson

Edward Stuart Swanson
Edward Stuart Swanson, age 91 of Scottville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington.
He was born on March 26, 1926 in Sherman Township in Mason County; son of the late Hilding and Freda (Beyer) Swanson.
He graduated from Scottville High School. He then joined the Army in May of 1946 at Camp McCoy Wisconsin. After the war, he came home and decided to become a carpenter. He worked as an apprentice in Ludington to receive his license to build.
Stuart married Ruth Ann Hollinshed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ludington on June 25, 1949. The built a home in Hungry Hollow on the south branch of the Lincoln River.
As a carpenter, he built many homes in the Mason County Area. He refinished kitchens, changed windows, and re-did roofs. If you were in need of any home improvements, Stuart was your man.
Stuart was a life-long Scottville Optimist Member. He worked there on bingo nights for many years. He loved to fish, hunt and golf. He hunted out west and enjoyed Canada with his son Dale. He enjoyed golfing with his son David. He and his wife Ruth were avid softball fans. They enjoyed watching their boys play ball. Together they were Charter Members of Our Savior Lutheran Church. They had a favorite spot to mushroom hunt together. He enjoyed cutting wood with his daughter Rhonda and always looked forward to her home cooked meals. Many friends looked forward to a ride in Stuart’s plane. He flew an Aeronca Chief Plane and landed it on his own air strip in the back yard.
After flying for 35 years he gave it up and went to enjoy a good game of cards. Poker and especially set back, with his friends, were his favorite card games.
Stuart is survived by his children: Rhonda Nettles, David (Calista) Swanson, and Dale (Debbie) Swanson; also, a very special girl to his heart, Beth Ann Pobojewski; grandchildren: Ginnie (Mike) Gould, Jaime (Beth) Swanson, Tyler (Toni) Swanson, Kaitlyn (Ryan) Sanocki, Julia Swanson, Amanda Swanson, and Amy (Vince) Simonte; great grandchildren: Kylee Buchen, Colton, Chandler and Chase Simonte, Peyton and Alexander Swanson and Mason Sanocki; numerous loving nieces and nephews, as well as his special friend, Pat Arnounts, who has been a blessing to all.
He was preceded in death by parents; his loving wife Ruth, of 55 years; sister: Helen Roeder; brother: Carl Swanson, and niece: Sharon Evans; nephew: Jim Evans.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville. The family will receive relative and friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service at 12:00. A graveside service with Military Honors will take place directly following the service.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Stuart’s family; to then be dispersed to numerous charities of their choice.
