Neil Rodger Block, Age 88 of Manistee died Friday, August 4, 2017 at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital.
He was born on February 22, 1929 in Muskegon, the son of the late Bernard & Florence (Niesen) Block. He attended Manistee High School and was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. He married Elaine J. Schimke on September 2, 1950 at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Manistee.
He was employed as a welder/maintenance at AKZO Salt in Manistee for 42 years, from 1949 until his retirement on February 22, 1991.
Neil was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Manistee. He enjoyed hunting as well as playing golf and softball.
Survivors include his wife; Elaine Block of Manistee, one son: Jeff (Julie) Block of Manistee, two brothers; Don & Carol Block of Manistee, and Bruce Block of Berrien Springs, MI, and two grandchildren; Erika Hamilton and Nikki Aguirre.
Funeral Services for Neil Block will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Manistee with Pastor Malcolm Mills officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6-8 PM and again on Friday from 1:00 PM until time of service.
Memorials in Neil’s name may be directed to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Manistee.
