Obituary for Shelly Diane Hanley

Michelle D. Hanley, 56, of Ludington passed away on Saturday, July 8th 2017.

Shelly, as she was known by her friends and loved ones, was born on October 21st, 1960, the daughter of John and Virginia (Houlb) Harloff. She was raised in Ludington and graduated with honors at the top of her class from Ludington High school in 1978. She received a full scholarship to West Shore Community College where she later earned a nursing degree and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She succeeded in everything she put her mind to. For several years she was a manager at Ludington’s Pizza Hut. She was a loyal worker there, but reluctantly left her job as a restaurant manager to take a position as the Office Manager and a Corporate Officer at St. John’s Health Care P.C. where she could utilize her nursing degree. She was dedicated to her career and helping others.

Shelly had a giving heart and frequently donated to Toys for Tots, The Salvation Army, the local food pantries, and the animal shelter. She was a devoted mother and wife, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed her cats, Disney World, reading, riding her bike to local events, and especially decorating for Halloween. She went above and beyond every year to decorate for the Trick or Treaters in her local community and Halloween will not be the same without her enthusiasm. Family was most important to her and she spent most of her time taking care of the people around her.

Shelly is survived by her husband of almost 30 years, Paul Hanley; children, Samantha Hanley and Kaitlyn (Anthony Jr.) Pianto; siblings, Lisa (William) Thompson and Mike (fiancé Jackie Keen) Harloff; nieces and nephews, Tessa (Eli) Andrews, Jason (Jessica) Thompson, Morgan Harloff, and Molli (Dan) Eiserman; and her cat Mia.

Preceding her in death are her parents, John and Virginia Harloff, and her cat, Ozzy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5th 2017 at 1:00 pm at Oak Grove Funeral Home, with visitation starting at noon.
