Obituary for Cheryl Noll

Cheryl Noll
Cheryl Lucas Noll, 72, of Ludington, passed away peacefully at home. She lived life fully until her decided time and then died from the complications of ovarian cancer. Cheryl was born on Feb. 10, 1945 in Napoleon, Ohio, the daughter of Robert and Ruth Austermiller Lucas. She was a lifelong student and teacher, graduating from Napoleon High School in 1963, earning her bachelors degree in education from Bowling Green State University in 1966, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity, a social sorority, and Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education. Upon graduation in 1966, she married her husband of 51 years, best friend and lifelong partner, Thomas V. Noll. They have lived in Ludington since 1969. In 1984, Cheryl received her master’s degree in education from Central Michigan University, and later completed an additional 40 hours of post-graduate studies in Education. She began her teaching career in 1966, devoted herself to her young students for 30 years and retired from Ludington Area Schools in 1996. Cheryl felt most blessed after retirement to have enjoyed living the next 21 winters in beautiful Naples, Florida and summers in Ludington on her beloved Lake Michigan.

Cheryl had an appreciation of literature and languages and took great joy in being a member of book clubs in Michigan and Florida, as well as a dedicated Francophile who studied French in the U.S. as well as in total immersion language schools in the south of France. She was a follower of the budget travel author Rich Steves and knew that travel broadens one’s perspectives. Cheryl and her husband lived in France and Germany in 1966-1967, and she felt very fortunate to later have traveled extensively to France and 17 other European countries. Living life to the fullest for Cheryl also meant being physically fit and appreciating nature, which included teaching aerobic dancing, playing tennis, pickleball, running, biking, golfing and kayaking.

Cheryl will be greatly missed by her husband, Thomas, her son, Christopher (Meredith) Noll of Tacoma, Washington, her daughter, Abigail (Renaud) Caumartin of New York City; and the greatest joys of her life, her three grandsons, Gabriel, Adrian and Luca Caumartin. She is also survived by her sister Mary Lee (Jerry) Gecowets, other cousins, nieces and nephews.
