James Lehr Ray Henry, 84, of Scottville, passed away on May 27, 2017.
James was born on January 8, 1933 in Bluffton, OH, the son of Ford and Levon (Lehman) Henry. He moved to Wayland, MI where he met and married Freda Bowyer. James was in the United States Army as a Sergeant during the Korean War. He had his pilot’s license and loved to fly, and was a Charter Boat Captain. Jim was ranked Top 10 in the Nation for competitive Bench Rest Shooting for over 10 years.
James was an Oil & Gas Contractor for at least 35 years, owning his own rig. Later, he opened Henry’s Landing Campground & Canoe & Kayak Rental until selling it to his grandson in 2015. As busy as James was, he also found time to open a golf driving range in the 1980’s. Through his life and all of his adventures, James’s wife, Freda, was always by his side.
James is survived by his wife of 63 years, Freda Henry; children, Scott (Jill) Henry, Jefferson (Sue) Henry, and Cheryl (Clare) Brasseur; grandchildren, Garek and Shane Henry, Jefferson Jr. and Lillian Henry, Joshua (Theresa) Henry, and Nicholas Farhat; great grandchildren, Kaidence, Isabella, James Chase, and Joshua Mack; and siblings, Ford “Butch” (Kathy) Henry and Bonnie (Kipp) Henry-Hassell.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Ford and Levon Henry.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 2 pm at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Ludington, with visitation starting at 1 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Henry’s Landing for Tree Planting.
