Obituary for Thomas Bennett Reed, Jr.

Thomas Bennett Reed, Jr.
Thomas Bennett Reed, Jr., 86, of Ludington, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 4, 2017.

Thomas was born on February 28, 1931 in Muskegon, the son of Thomas and Ferol (Hammond) Reed. He graduated from Whitehall High School in 1949 and received his B.S. in Music Education from Michigan State University in 1975. Thomas worked for WKLA from 1966 until 1972 and was the band director for Laingsburg Public School for 17 years.

Thomas wed Sharon Tyler on May 26, 1967. They were members of Calvary Baptist Church and he was a life-time member of the Scottville Clown Band. Thomas loved his retirement; watching the Badger, spending time at the beach with his wife. He was a good father who passed on his sense of humor and his love of music to his children.

Thomas will be missed by those who survive him, wife, Sharon Reed; children, Chris (Denny) Fast, Cathy Reed, Tom (Beverly) Reed, Rebecca (Eric) Kohn, and Kevin (Sarah) Reed; sister, Mary (Dale) Catherman; and grandchildren, Jonathan Motyka, Joshua, Abigail and Benjamin Reed, Harper and Reagan Kohn, and Nora Reed.

Preceding Thomas in death are his parents, Thomas and Ferol; sons, Christopher and Daniel; and siblings, Jane and Donald.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church with visitation starting at 10:00 am. Visitation will also be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
