Obituary for William Henry Hahn

William Henry Hahn
William Henry Hahn, Age 87, of Ludington, passed away peacefully April 21, 2017 at Mercy Health in Muskegon.
He was born August 26, 1929 in Manistee, to the late Edward Otto Leo and Meta Fredricka (Budde) Hahn as the youngest of five children. He grew up on the family farm in Parkdale, MI and graduated from Manistee High School in 1948. Bill married his high school sweetheart and wife of sixty-six and a half years, Darlene Ann Rynearson, on his twenty first birthday in 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee.

He graduated from the Forty Second Recruit School of the Michigan State Police in 1956 and proudly served for thirty-one years at posts in Grand Haven, Gaylord, Brighton and Calumet before retiring in 1986. Following retirement, the couple quickly dropped off their belongings into their new home in Ludington before hitting the road to enjoy visits with children and grandchildren throughout the United States. Upon settling into the Ludington community and joining Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville, Bill and Darlene turned their home into the finest family gathering spot ever known, filling it with 30 years of love, laughter and laugh-til-you-cry stories that will be remembered for generations.

Bill is survived by his wife Darlene; daughter Laurie and husband Ken Copeland of Fowlerville, MI; daughter Hollie and husband Gary Schaefer of Marietta, GA; son Bill Hahn and fiance Jona Advincula of Fullerton, CA; son John Hahn of Franklin, MI; nine grandchildren: Matt and wife Abbie Copeland, Pete and wife Abby Copeland, Curt and wife Kelly Copeland, Scott Schaefer, Stacy Schaefer and husband Kyle Pentecost, Janel Hahn, Paige Bourgeois, Raimee Iacofano and Chase Iacofano; and six great-grandchildren: Lilly, Avery, Kenlee, Gracyn, Decker and Evelyn; and many nephews, nieces and cousins who fondly referred to him as "Uncle Will."

He was preceded in death by his siblings: Dick Hahn, Herb Hahn, Mayme Young and Ed Hahn; and his "bestest" pet Boo.

Services will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church (765 West US Hwy 10, Scottville, MI) on Wednesday, April 26. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a service following at 2:00 p.m. Internment will be at Lakeview Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society www.lls.org or Our Savior Lutheran Church (231) 757-2271.
