Betty Lou  Tripp (Woebbeking)
Betty Lou (Willoughby) Tripp, age 79, of Ludington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at her son's home in Ludington.
Born on September 25, 1938; daughter of Fred and Retha (Peterson) Woebbeking in Free Soil, she was the sixth of seven children. Betty attended Pelton School her first eight years and graduated from Free Soil High School in 1956 where she was active in many sports.
Betty married Frank Willoughby and settled in Free Soil where they raised their seven children, Michele Stickney, Richard (Vickie Sanders) Willoughby, Dan Willoughby, Frank (Barb) Willoughby, LaJuana Willoughby, Judy (John) Essig and Bill (Marte Genia) Willoughby. Betty is survived by her stepson: Ricky (Mary) Willoughby; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters: Arlene Crofoot and Ann Hasenbank; brother Fred (Judy) Woebbeking.
After Frank's passing, she married Steven Tripp who preceded her in death. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings Doris Woebbeking, Hellen Woebbeking and Ellen Peck.
Betty worked for Manistee County Medical Care Facility for many years. She was the substitute postmaster for Free Soil, Sunday school teacher at the Free Soil United Methodist Church and previous caretaker of the Maple Grove Cemetery. Betty served on the school board as secretary, as well as the Board of Elections. She was also active in community activities, including, cooking, baking for various events and serving as a 4-H leader. She volunteered for the Free Soil Volunteer Fire Department where she helped maintain the building. She was the happiest working in her yard and garden.
Per her request, cremation has taken place. Arrangements for a private burial with Betty’s family will be handled by Oak Grove Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Mason County for their caring support.
