Obituary for Richard "Dick" Ivan Thurow, Sr.

Richard “Dick” Ivan Thurow, Sr., 95, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 at his home in Scottville.

Dick was born on June 29, 1921 in Riverton Township, son of William and Muriel (Wemple) Thurow. He graduated from Scottville High School in 1939. On March 28, 1942, he was wed to Bessie Carol Tuttle and helped raise four children.

Dick worked for various farm related businesses; Carnation Milk, Michigan Animal Breeders, Farm Bureau Co-op in Scottville, as well as farming his own land. After retiring he worked for several local auctioneers. Dick was a member at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scottville and enjoyed fishing, golfing, and activities at the Scottville Senior Center.

Dick is survived by his children, Jeri Fry; Kay Bonds, and Gary Thurow; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and sister, Darlene Viglietti.

Preceding Dick in death are his parents; son, Richard Jr.; wife, Bessie; great grandchild, Victoria Croff; sisters, Evelyn and Betty; and brothers, Emery and Ed.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Ludington, with Pastor Richard Miller presiding. Visitation will start at 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Custer. Memorial contributions may be made to Scottville Senior Center or Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scottville.
