I grew up in Frankfort, and my childhood home was across the street from your parents' Lake Michigan bluff house on Michigan Avenue. I believe both my grandmother (Mildred Steinkamp Koop) and mother (Jenny Lu Plumstead) played bridge with Bea. My mom was a member of the Paul Oliver Auxiliary and PEO with your mom. I remember Bea's elegant hairstyle and classy clothes--much dressier than most of the other ladies I knew. I grew up loving horses, and remember watching your dad ride elegantly past. It was a long time ago, but I still have a clear picture of shiny boots, straight back, and a hat that was NOT a cowboy hat. I later learned that your parents had traveled the world and lived in many interesting places. Shortly after I was married, your parents sold their bluff house and moved down town. I went to the auction at their house, and bought a few things (I remember a box of misc. silver plate and another misc. box of mixed metal objects.) I still have many of them in my home today. My sister-in-law bought an armoire, and we were both thrilled to come home with something beautiful and practical. We were in awe of the lovely things they had collected from around the world, and imagined what an exciting, grand life they must have led! While I didn't know either of your parents well, they made a powerful impression on me. I'm sure you benefitted from sharing their adventures as you grew up; I hope those memories bring you comfort.
