Alvin James Egeler, Age 79 of Manistee died Saturday, April 23, 2016 at West Shore Medical Center in Manistee.
He was born on July 28, 1936 in Leelanau County’s Leland Township, the son of the late Harold & Delia (Alpers) Egeler. He was a 1954 graduate of Leland High School. On November 6, 1965 he married Vera M. Chaney at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Leland.
Alvin was employed as a clerk by the C & O Railroad for 41years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee and the Manistee Moose Lodge. An avid bowler, he bowled in three leagues. He also enjoyed deer hunting.
Survivors include his wife; Vera M. Egeler of Manistee, three daughters; Alynn Schoener of Florida, Michelle (William) Doetsch of Grand Rapids, and Jennifer (Fletcher) Newfer of Newaygo, four grandchildren; Joshua (Ann) Rushford, Jonathon Rushford, and Josselyn & Brendan Newfer, his sister; Dorothy Pollack of Traverse City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Marvin, Robert, & Eugene “Pete” Egeler.
Memorial Services for Alvin J. Egeler will be held Friday, April 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee with Reverend Dennis Rahn officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until time of service.
