Eugene Gerald Erlandson, Age 83 of Manistee died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at his home.
He was born on July 30, 1932 in Manistee, the son of the late Elwood & Teckla (Stone) Erlandson. He was a graduate of Onekama High School and had attended Michigan State University. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict as well as serving in the Michigan National Guard from 1960 to 1992. He married Stella Mae Cole on May 8, 1965 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Manistee. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2005.
Eugene had been employed at Ex-Cello Corporation in Manistee and later by the City of Manistee as a launch ramp attendant at First Street Beach.
He was a member of the New Life Tabernacle in Manistee, the Loyal Order of Moose, VFW Walsh Post #4499, American Legion Post #10, La Societe Des 40 Homes et 8, and the 246th Armor Association. He also was a member of the Manistee United Veterans Council Drill Team. He was very active at the Manistee Senior Center, loved watching Manistee County high school sports and the Manistee Saints. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and visiting family.
He is survived by his children; Peggy L. Erlandson of St. Paul, MN, Timothy (Abby) Erlandson of Austin, TX, Linda Johnson of East Lake, and Larry (Sandy) Johnson of Manistee, 9 grandchildren; Matthew, Hope, Anthony, Christian & Nathan Erlandson, Jennifer Johnson, Valerie (Phillip) Vasquez, Jonathan (Lori) Johnson, & Darcy Benghenia, DDS, 5 great grandchildren; Natalie & Ethan Johnson, Cyrus & Darya Pishevar, & Adam Benghenia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings.
Funeral Services for Eugene G. Erlandson will be held Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee with Pastor Alto Goodspeed officiating. Military Honors by the Manistee United Veterans Council Drill Team will follow. Burial will be in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Bear Lake. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service.
