Lyford Bryan Young, age 79, of Greensboro, NC, passed away on Sunday, January 3rd at Moses
Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Lyford was born on May 11, 1936 in Dublin, MI son of the late Robert Young and Spencer
Thomas.
Lyford attended Free Soil High School and graduated with the class of 1955. He married Cather
Holmes on June 14, 1958 in Manistee.
Lyford served as a butcher and truck driver for Sanders Meat Packing of Custer for 10 years. He
then went on to become a machinist at Ex-Cello Corporation in Manistee for 18 years. He eventually
became a school bus driver for Mason County School District for 16 years and retired in 1998. He has
been a congregation elder with Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years.
Lyford is survived by his Wife, Cather Young of Greensboro; daughter, Yolanda (Nathaniel)
Murray of Greensboro; sons, Carlton (Regina) of Scottville and Leslie (Lynette) of Greensboro;
grandchildren, Anthony Young, Marcus Murray, Leslie and Landon Young; brothers, Jordan (Thelma)
Young of Carleton, Jerry (Donna) Young of Ludington, Calvin (Josephine) Young of Grand Rapids; sisters,
Ophelia White of Grand Rapids, Marla (Haywood) Muse of District Heights, MD and Rebecca Coleman of
Washington D.C.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Oak Grove Funeral Home of
Ludington on January 16 at 3:00 P.M, with Terrence Herd officiating. There will be a one hour visitation
